Chakan has an every mood and unique look that wasn't particularly awe-inspiring, but nevertheless did add to the mood of the play. The action does require that a certain sense of technique develop in how you interact with the enemy environment that must be overcome, but it wasn't anything that I really got into.
Chakan is an exceptionally well playing game. It is a bit on the hard side for the average player as successful game play will require either a lot of trial and error or good technique. The large amount of spells is a plus and knowing when to use them is part of the fun. If you are a good player, make this your game.
Another good title from Sega. Things could be looking up. Chakan is jam-packed with interesting game play and a ton of technique. The graphics are good, and the music is decent, but this game really shines in game play. Lots of weapons and spells are at your disposal throughout each of 8 challenging levels! Chakan is an awesome title with a lot to offer in the way of technique. Much more could be added, but that leaves room for sequel anyway.

The battle raged on for several days and the ultimate victor was very clear. I grant you the kiss of eternal life, but, for your arrogance and pride I will temper my gift with this curse. Each nightfall, evils will be shown to you, and the pain of their victims will be your pain.
You will never know rest as you wander this world searching to slay the horrors that haunt your sleeping world. You will suffer grievous wounds, but you will not die, and as eternity rolls on, you will crave my touch.
Your face will bear my visage, and your eyes will burn with hellfire. There shall be an end to your curse. If all the beasts of the dark are slain, then you may find rest. The player, as Chakan, starts off in a central hub stage, from which he can select one of four elemental-based "planes" of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, each with three levels. The player advances through each level until completion, whereupon Chakan is returned to the hub to choose a new level on either the same or a different plane.
Levels within a plane must be completed in order, but that is the only restriction on the order the player may do levels.
The player has infinite lives, but will be forced to return to the hub if Chakan is "killed".
